Alter’s Gem Jewelry traces its roots to 1915, when Morris L. Jacobs opened a fine jewelry store in Port Arthur after recovering from the Great Flood. The business expanded to Beaumont in 1929. Nelson Alter joined in 1950 and later became president, growing the company into a multi-store operation. Today, third-generation owner Brian Alter continues the family jewelry tradition.
